I learned a lot of history from reading non-fiction history and biography mangas as a kid, too.

Hi Maple, I'm so glad to have found your substack from Alina Chau. I'm an elementary librarian and I love encouraging my students to read graphic novels and comics. Thanks for this great post. I need to add some of these to my library. :) My son (13) has developed a similar love of history to yours, especially through the Nathan Hale books-- he has read and reread them over and over. I think that's one of the great things about graphics is that kids are drawn to read them over and over again.

Hi Nicole, I'm so happy to hear this, esp. that you encourage your students to read comics and graphic novels! You rock! Reading comics and graphic novels got into the habit of reading and eventually developed a life-long interest in history, and I'm so glad there are so many great graphic novels out today for both kids and adults! :D
